Petite Pomme

SAKs invites you to a screening of feminist video art on Thursday, April 15th from 7-10pm at Cinecycle (down the Lane behind 129 Spadina Ave.). Following the screening there will be a panel discussion surrounding feminist issues in video art.

Cover is $5 (or pay what you can)

We will have light refreshments and beer and coffee will be sold at the bar.

Artists include: Vera Frenkel, Penny Lane, James Diamond, Allyson Mitchell, Deirdre Logue, Sarah Friend, Kika Nicolela, Ariel Smith, Dana C. Inkster, Isabelle Riva, Emily Vey Duke & Cooper Batterby, and MORE!

Panelists include: Deirdre Logue along with the SAKS curatorial collective (Sissel, Katie and Adi)

SAKS seeks for the promotion and investigation of new media feminist art. We are a curatorial collective of three ardent feminists. So much of contemporary feminist art is about paying homage to those who fought for our right to demand equal rights for the disenfranchised of our world. We seek to explore how the work of early feminist film and video artists have fed into the work that is being created today. Our hope is to facilitate an open environment where this can be done and questions can be raised.

CALL FOR ART

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
SAKS is seeking donations of visual art in any medium for a silent
auction. The proceeds of the auction serve to fund the screening
program of our curatorial collective.
SAKS seeks for the promotion and investigation of new media feminist
art. So much of contemporary feminist art is about paying homage to
those who fought for our right to demand equal rights for the
disenfranchised of our world. We seek to explore how the work of early
feminist film and video artists has fed into the work that is being
created today. Our hope is to facilitate an open environment where
this can be done and questions can be raised.
On March 19th, 2010 we will be hosting an art fundraising event at
Double Double Land in Kensington Market. There will be live music,
more music, sweet and delicious confectioneries and a silent art
auction. All of this is in preparation of an event that we will be
hosting in late April where we will screen foundational feminist video
works, new feminist works and have a panel discussion to discuss
feminism and new media.
It would be our honour if you would donate a piece of your work that
can be auctioned off to help raise funds for our day long exhibition
and investigation of feminist new media.
We ask that you submit by email a jpeg of the artwork, a description
of the work, and a short bio of yourself as an artist.
AND of course we would like to invite you to Double Double Land on
March 19th, 2010.
